Free Online Reciprocal Link Exchange Checker

reciprocal-link-exchange-checker-tool-01In spite of Penguin and Panda there is still value in exchanging links. The most effective link exchanges are "three way", whereby you link from a page on one domain pointing to a page in a second domain, while they link back to one of your pages from a third domain. It is impractical for google to police and penalize such exchanges, as it can never know whether they were intentional and designed (but be careful, do not communicate with one another if either one of you has a gmail account! Considering google's privacy practices you can rest assured that such correspondence will not be unnoticed and will be factored into its algorithms!). If done responsibly and effectively, such a discreet and quality exchange can only turn into a win win situation for both of you.

The problem is when your link partner is not honest and removes the link to you after some time. Because chances are you will not check and they have won a backlink from you and give you nothing. A win win situation for them.

Hence the need for some automated system which every day checks the status of your link exchanges.

The following system is not limited to only your homepage, like most such services are, but can include deep links between individual pages, across different domains, such as
domain1.com/deepburiedlink/page1.html linking to your partner's
domain2.com/deepburiedlink/etc/page2, while your partner links from
domain3.com/deepburiedlink/page3.html to your
domain1.com/deepburiedlink/page5.html.

Here is an example report:

reciprocal link exchange checker

As you can see from items 3 and 4, an exact cardinal url match is important. Item five is a nofollow link (the second last link on the page).

At the moment the system does the following:

  • checks that there exists a link on the page in the left column pointing to the page in the right column, and makes sure that the link is not a "nofollow" and that the page is not a "noindex" or "nofollow".

A failure to meet this criteria will show a red X in the far right column, whereby you can click on the link in the left column to generate an email to the person in charge of that webpage.

Upcoming developments:

  • a cron job every day during low traffic times to go through all links and send a report to each user

  • the user can choose to receive a report every day, run a manual scan at any time, or only receive reports if anything has changed, such as the PageRank

  • monitor the page rank of both links concerned

  • check to make sure the page linked from is indexed in google

  • an upload function so that you can store all this info in a simple Excel file, which you can then save as a simple csv file and upload the info, instead of having to insert the info into the individual fields online

  • if a link is removed it can be set up to automatically write an email to your link partner and yourself, informing both of the change.

  • eventually a premium service whereby you can insert a code/script on your pages which will automatically remove a link if your partner is found not to comply, or insert a link when you add it to this system. Manually removing or adding links in itself is a time consuming factor.

Why Three Way Link Exchanges have Good Value

Such agreements should be combined with other link building strategies, such as one way links from blogs, forums, submitted articles, news articles and so forth. All in moderation, so as not to appear spammy to google. No massive, cheap campaigns, but carefully selected link exchanges, which should be automatically checked on a regular basis so that you continue to receive the intended benefits from them.

These link exchanges should be thematically based. Do not link exchange your pet store website with a porno site. If the domain you are exchanging links with is not exactly thematically related to yours, it is okay to get a link from one of their pages that is. In this way you can build quality backlinks, in addition to your other SEO quality backlinking strategies, without any fear of penalization. Two way linking (your home page to theirs, theirs to yours) is pretty obvious in the eyes of google, but not such discrete deep links. In this way you support one another and elevate each others' sites against your competition.

Of course, when exchanging links, it is important to consider traffic and page rank, as well as site authority. All these factors should be considered before agreeing on a fair exchange, but once you've gone through all this effort (which can definitely pay off), you will need an automated system to regularly check that your link exchange partner is adhering to their end of the bargain. You can even refer them to your use of this free service to send them a message not to try.
